About the Role:

As a Staff Accountant, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our dealership’s financial data. This position bridges the accounting and operations teams — focusing on booking and posting all car deals, managing warranty and contract reconciliations, and supporting financial reporting.

You’ll work closely with our Title Clerk team and the Controller to ensure each transaction flows smoothly through the financial statement, while gaining hands-on experience that will prepare you for future growth into an Assistant Controller or Controller role within our organization.

Essential Duties & Major Responsibilities

Deal & Financial Accounting (35%)

  • Book and post all retail, lease, and wholesale car deals accurately and promptly.

  • Process and reconcile warranty, aftermarket, and factory incentive transactions.

  • Collaborate with the Title Clerk team to verify deal accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

  • Review contracts in transit, factory receivables, and wholesale schedules to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

General Ledger & Reconciliation (25%)

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts for vehicle sales, inventory, and liabilities.

  • Perform monthly reconciliations and variance analysis to ensure data integrity.

  • Verify posting accuracy within dealership management systems.

Financial Reporting & Analysis (20%)

  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.

  • Analyze variances and trends to provide meaningful insights to management.

  • Support the Controller and Comptroller in forecasting and budget development.

Cash & Asset Management (10%)

  • Track deposits and cash activity related to vehicle transactions.

  • Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules.

  • Support cash flow reporting and daily reconciliation of key accounts.

Compliance & Process Improvement (10%)

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, state/federal regulations, and internal policies.

  • Support both internal and external audit requests.

  • Recommend improvements to accounting procedures for greater efficiency and accuracy.


Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required or in progress).

  • 1–3 years of accounting experience (automotive dealership preferred).

  • Knowledge of GAAP, reconciliations, and month-end processes.

  • Strong Excel and system skills; experience with dealership management software a plus.

  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Positive attitude, integrity, and a commitment to continuous learning.
